Paulita Natividad

June 16, 1919 - July 13, 2016

Paulita was born in San Juan, La Union, Philippines just after the first World War. She was the 4th of 8 children. She graduated as a professional dressmaker and married her husband, Florido in 1942. They had six children together from 1943 - 1949 and was widowed by 1951. Also by this time, five of her children had succumbed to childhood illnesses at a time when affordable vaccines were not readily available. Soon, she decided that she would have to work in Manila (six hours away by train) to earn a living to support her only child. Thankfully, her brothers and sisters were very involved in the daily care of her daughter.

In 1969, Paulita followed her only remaining child to Canada to start a new life and also to attend her daughter’s wedding in Tillsonburg, Ontario. By 1971, she had made her way to the United States and found work as a nanny for a family that adopted her as their own grandmother and spent 10 wonderful years with them. Finally, Paulita retired in Windsor and spent many, many weekends and evenings socializing with her legion of friends from FILGA and the Windsor Filipino community. Paulita was a style watcher, she worked in earnest to engage her dressmaking skills so that she could create a new outfit for each party or event that she attended. Somewhere along the way, she caught the eye of John, her true love, and now her life was complete with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and countless friends and relatives. She was to lose John in 1999, a few months before her 80th birthday celebration.

She died in hospital with her only daughter and eldest grandson at her side. Special thanks to all those who cared for her over the years when her body could no longer keep up with her mind and spirit.

Paulita is survived by a younger sister, daughter, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and many cousins. Please join us for a gathering to celebrate her life on Friday, July 22nd from 6-9 PM at the Morris Sutton Funeral Home on 68 Giles Boulevard East, Windsor, Ontario and prayer service at 7 PM. Funeral mass is scheduled for 10 AM, Saturday, July 23rd at St Alphonsus Church on 85 Park St E in Windsor, Ontario immediately followed by a reception at Morris Sutton Funeral Home.
